Lang Yarns Jawoll Silk is a beautiful, strong yarn made from Tussah silk and Corriedale sheep wool. This type of silk is wild silk, obtained from free-ranging cocoons or caterpillars of the Japanese oak silkworm. The yarn is also slightly stronger than mulberry silk – an unwound cocoon typically yields 1200–1400 meters of silk thread. During the JAWOLL SILK shearing process, only the best part of the wool is sorted. The average fiber thickness, or diameter, is only 25 microns (1 micron = 1/1000 mm), which makes the wool feel very soft and comfortable to wear. Corriedale sheep live year-round in the natural wilderness of Patagonia. Due to limited food supply, their wool remains white and grows up to 10 cm in average staple length. This allows it to absorb dyes well, resulting in bright colors, and the finished yarn is very resistant to pilling (knot formation). These Swiss Lang Yarns Jawoll Silk threads are perfect for knitting socks and sweaters. They also pair well with mohair or silk. Therefore, they are a great match for Lang Yarns Lace yarns. Knitted garments are recommended to be washed on a wool cycle at temperatures up to 40°C, do not use fabric softeners.
